This class is for intermediate-level students who want to build up their conversation skills by discussing events in their lives and the world around them. In class we will use two or three high-interest feature articles taken from a range of American, British and Japanese newspapers. These include the New York Times, Newsweek, The UK Guardian and the Japan Times. The articles will include topics such as health, education, language, technology and food as well as reviews of new books and movies. Up-to-date feature articles (usually ４-600 words) will be handed out in class and also sent by e-mail, one week in advance. In class students will be encouraged to talk about their own experiences and connect them with the topics we read about. Stimulating conversation and a warm and cooperative learning community are guaranteed.

龍谷大学国際学部教授
専門はアメリカ史と大衆文化。日本とアメリカ、イギリスのポピュラー音楽の変遷を比較研究、執筆を行っている。ストリート・チルドレンに関する取材、研究も行い「ベトナムのストリート・チルドレンニッチＮＧＯの役割」を執筆。またＥＦＬ分野での発表、論文執筆も数多い。
